30 years of experience supporting carers and seniors: an important update from Carer and Community SA.

For more than 30 years, Carer and Community SA has had the privilege of supporting carers and delivering aged care services in South Australia.

Following careful consideration, Carer and Community SA has made the difficult decision to wind down its operations and will close at the end of 2026. This decision was not made lightly and follows extensive investigation of alternative options.

To maximise the long-term benefit of its financial reserves funds and continue the legacy established by our pioneering leader Pat Smytherman OAM, Carer and Community SA has gifted funds to ECH to broaden its established Caring for Carers program.

In addition, the Board of CCSA determined to donate CCSA’s mini-bus to the HenderCare Foundation. The donation of the mini-bus will make a meaningful difference to the children and young people supported by the Foundation.

Young Carers

Young carers are young people aged 5 to 25 who have caregiving responsibilities. They may provide emotional support, assist with household tasks, or help care for a family member with a disability, chronic illness, mental health condition, or substance-use issue. Despite the vital role they play, many young carers do not know they are young carers, which can make them less visible and result in their needs being unmet. This highlights the importance of raising awareness and ensuring young carers receive timely, appropriate, and tailored support that enhances wellbeing, education and employment outcomes, and full participation in all aspects of life.
