Every person with a disability is different and requires support that is unique to them. However, one thing that all Carers have in common is their need for practical support and emotional understanding, at least from time to time. Caring for someone with a disability can be demanding, and we want to be a source of support to you if you are in that situation.
Respite
We can arrange for trained workers to be with the person you care for so that you can have a break. You could use this break to do something you would like to do, to do something you have to do, or to assist when you have an emergency situation.
Information
We can advise on services that are local to you, or that may be able to assist you in some way. The experienced staff at the Commonwealth Respite and Carelink Centre have a broad database of available services. This can save Carers a lot of ‘legwork’ and confusion in their search for relevant assistance and services.
Support
It can be difficult for Carers who provide a high level of care to view themselves as separate from their caring role. It’s very important for Carers to express their individuality and feel validated as an individual and we plan our support services with this in mind. A fun day out while your person is being cared for, chatting at a coffee group with others in the same situation, or receiving a supportive phone call from someone who understands can make a big difference to the balance of your life. Older parents of young people with disability can also look to us for help with planning for the future.
