The Male Carers' Program was developed shortly after the
expansion of the Carer Support and Respite Centre Inc in 1997-98 so that
men could have culturally appropriate support for themselves and to
address the special issues that men often bring to the caring role.
The goals of the program:
We aim to
support men in their caring role. We provide a variety of safe, caring
environments where men can take a break from the caring responsibilities
and meet with other men to discuss relevant issues and gain support for
themselves as well as give support to others. In these environments we
also present educational sessions and courses on topics of interest,
including health matters, relaxation training, planning strategies and
more.
We encourage and promote social activities so that
male Carers can have a life in which there is a balance between caring
and recreation. These social activities can include day or half-day
trips, visits to places of interests, or just a special lunch. Longer
breaks including overnight stays are also arranged to give male carers a
substantial break from caring responsibilities.
