Carers are individuals and their response
to the impact of caring is different depending on their life experience,
the relationship with the person for whom they are caring and the level
of support available to them.
Carers tell us that:
The focus of attention on the person
who has a disability can lead to the Carer feeling invisible, that
their needs, opinions and observations are not valued.
The demands of the caring role may
prevent their normal participation in family, community activities
and employment.
The isolation may lead to loss of
self-esteem and confidence
Constant tiredness, feelings of
frustration, guilt and loneliness
Personal health problems
They experience changes in their own
behavior including inability to concentrate, prone to accidents,
changes in sleep patterns
they experience personal growth and
satisfaction
They experience the need to maintain a
healthy lifestyle
They are managing well and will
continue to manage well if they receive regular, quality time out
They have developed many new skills
Quality Carer Support will recognise and
build upon difference, and plan support services in response to the
expressed and perceived need of Carers.
