Carer Support and Respite Centre Inc. aims to provide Carers with assured, flexible and
meaningful support in ways where mutual trust and respect are paramount.
Carer Support services commenced in South Australia in
June 1990 with the establishment of the Carer Support Network Inc. This
service, funded by the Home and Community Care Program, was the birth
place of direct support services to Carers. Initially, the organisation
operated out of the Mitcham Community Centre, providing services to Carers
in the local government areas of Marion, Mitcham, Glenelg, Brighton, Unley
and Burnside.
In September 1995 Eastern Carer Support Inc. was
established to provided direct support services to Carers living in the
Eastern Metropolitan region of Adelaide. Services to Carers living in the
local government areas of Adelaide, Campbelltown, Norwood, Payneham, St
Peters, Walkerville Prospect and Enfield were developed based on the model
operating in the Southern Region of Adelaide.
These two organisations, built on similar philosophies and
values, amalgamated in January 1999. This followed closely after the
commencement of the South and East Metropolitan Carer Respite Centre,
successfully tendered and then auspiced by the Carer Support Network. The
Development of the CARER RESPITE CENTRE and the ensuing amalgamation have
presented the Carer Support and Respite Centre Inc. (CS & RC) with many
opportunities to grow and expand direct support services to Carers in the
Southern and Eastern Metropolitan Regions of Adelaide.
Today the Carer Support and Respite Centre provides a
range of direct support services to Carers, including a range of respite
options. We continue to be managed by a Board of Directors constituted of
60% Carers and 40% community representatives. Carers are our focus, we
work with and for Carers and value their input to the development of our
organisation at every level.
